New Mills pupils' artwork helps to spread the word

Young artists have done their bit to spread the word about consumer rights by designing a poster to be used in the High Peak.

Pupils from year five of New Mills Primary School were asked by the Citizens Advice Bureau Derbyshire District to take part in a competition before Christmas to design a poster encouraging people to be aware of their consumer rights regarding any electrical items purchased for Christmas.

The children were asked to make A3 sized posters which looked attractive as well as having a clear message.

Dawn Mackenzie, consumer empowerment partnership officer for Citizens Advice Derbyshire District commented: “Knowing your rights means that if something goes wrong, you can approach the retailer for a repair, refund or replacement confident in the knowledge that they should help you find a solution.

“We would encourage shoppers to have a quick read of our top tips so they know where they stand, or contact us if they need further advice.”

Dawn and her team were so impressed with all the posters that instead of running it as a competition, they chose all 28 posters entered, framed them all and displayed them around New Mills.

The children went for a walk around the town to see their hard work on display themselves. They managed to fit almost all 28 posters into their afternoon stroll and each child had their photograph taken next to their poster.
