Last weekend saw the culmination of 18 months of hard work for the latest member of the Edale mountain rescue team, Mark Whittaker.

Mark, 39, from Sheffield was accepted as a trainee early in 2014 and has been working solidly over the past 18 months to become a full team member.

When trainees are ready, the final hurdle for them to overcome is an assessment weekend where all of the skills learned are put to the test in scenarios over some of the area’s most remote and rugged terrain.

Since becoming a fully fledged team member, Mark has been called out on a number of jobs including fallen climbers, allergic reactions, disoriented walkers and broken legs.

The team has now dealth with 121 incidents in the year to date.
