A new Christmas shopping event has been launched by a High Peak mum to help independent traders sell their goods during the festive season.
Joanne Coward, who is a lecturer at Salford University, operates a sideline business for Phoenix Trading. But she became frustrated at the lack of suitable events where she could book a stall at the busiest time of the year.
So she has organised her own, to be held at the Rutland Arms hotel in Bakewell on Saturday, November 12 (10 am to 4 pm). And after getting an excellent response from fellow independent traders, she is hoping to make it an annual event.
“It’s a great chance for local traders to come under one roof,” said Joanne, a 47-year-old mother-of-five who lives in Kettleshulme and is also finding the time at the moment to study for a degree.
All 14 tables have been booked and will sell a variety of items including cards, gifts and stationery on behalf of Phoenix. Other items that should attract Christmas shoppers range from books, chocolate, cosmetics, spa products and glass jewellery to French soap, dog-grooming products, clay creations and Italian clothes.
