Mum fears kids could be killed if Derbyshire’s lollipop men and women are axed – SIGN HER PETITION

Lisa Pritchard has set up an online petition urging Derbyshire County Council to rethink the “dangerous” proposal.

All school crossing patrol officers who currently work at 200 locations around the county face losing their jobs next year as the council bids to save £157million by 2018.

Mum-of-two Lisa, 30, of St Augustines Crescent, Chesterfield, said: “I’m upset and angry at these dangerous plans.

“It just doesn’t make sense to remove this vital service which has been such an important part of our communities for decades.

“I’m worried about the children who will be unsafe as a result – there could even be deaths.”

Councillor Andy Botham, cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport at the Labour-led council, said: “We do not want to make unrelenting cuts which will affect services local people rely on but the Government has left us no choice.

“We’re having to think the unthinkable. Like many of the cuts we’re being forced to propose, we don’t want to cut school crossing patrols.

“We understand this is an issue people feel very passionately about. No decisions have yet been made. If the proposals are carried forward a full consultation will take place where people’s views will be taken into account.”
