More houses to be built in New Mills

Ten new houses will be built in New Mills including two affordable homes after planning permission was granted by High Peak Borough Council.

At the meeting on Monday ten councillors voted in favour of the development on Albion Road and two rejected the proposals which will see a mixture of four-storey three bedroom properties and two-bed terraced houses.

Councillor Lance Dowson said: “I Am quite pleased that genuine brownfield land is being used for this development rather than greenfield land.

“I am concerned about the flood risk of the houses though as site is in a floodplain.

“I also feel we are being asked to approve this while not all the conditions have been submitted so we can act in good faith but with out all the information upfront it is a jump into the unknown.”

Councillor Jean Todd said: “I believe the houses are too close together.”

Speaking on behalf of the applicant, Treville Properties Ltd, Ben Pyecroft said: “This is a sustainable development with economic and social development which will be accessible to local services such as shops and schools.”

The site is within a relatively sustainable location with the New Mills Railway Station being in close proximity and a bus stop directly adjacent to the site on Albion Road.

The Town Centre of New Mills is also a relatively short distance away from the site.

The site is currently vacant and has been for some time, it is likely had been used as a business storage area.

It was noted by councillors the development falls in line with the newly adopted Local Plan and does not need to provide any open spaces.
