Much-loved Wayne Poxon lost his life on the A515 at Biggin, near Buxton, on August 12.

An inquest, held at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court on Friday, heard the 51-year-old window fitter was riding his Kawasaki motorbike along the road in the direction of Ashbourne at around 11am.

Ahead of him was a Volkswagen Tiguan and then a Citroen delivery van, which indicated to turn right into a driveway.

Matthew Kewley, assistant coroner for Derbyshire, told the inquest: “It is likely that Mr Poxon did not see the indicator on the Citroen van due to the view being obstructed by the Volkswagen Tiguan.

“Mr Poxon would also not have anticipated that there was a driveway on the right hand side.”

He added that Mr Poxon then overtook the Volkswagen Tiguan and collided with the van as it turned right into the driveway.

Mr Poxon suffered a serious head injury which caused his death.

Detective Sergeant Darren Muggleton, of Derbyshire Constabulary, told the court he did not conclude that Mr Poxon was riding dangerously and added: “The van driver couldn’t have avoided the collision – it all happened very quickly.”

Mr Kewley described the incident as ‘tragic’ and added: “Mr Poxon was a highly competent and skilled motorcyclist.

“He sadly died after a momentary lapse of judgement.”

Mr Kewley concluded that Mr Poxon died as a result of a road traffic collision and offered his condolences to his loved ones as the inquest finished.

Mr Poxon was married and lived in Parkway in the Chellaston area of Derby.
