Mayoral charities give helping hand

Twenty-seven local charitable organisations have been awarded funding from the High Peak Mayoral Charities Committee.

Chairman Bill Weston MBE told representatives of the selected groups in the Pavilion Gardens that raising the funds could not have been achieved without the help of friends and family of the committee as well as members of local organisations such as the Guides, Sea Cadets, Scouts, brass bands, cave and mountain rescue teams.

He gave especial thanks to the Mayor & Mayoress Cllr and Mrs David Lomax for their support and direct involvement throughout the year, as well as committee members Charles and Maureen Kitchen, Alan and Glynis Wells and Ann Pimblett.

Mr Weston said the High Peak Mayoral Charity Committee was celebrating the completion of its 21st year, and had during that time given out to 142 different local charities around £110,000.

Each organisation which received a cheque gave a brief resume of how the money would be put to use.

The Mayor closed by commenting on the good work carried out by the recipients.
