Marquee plans approved for Octagon Hall closure

Plans to erect a marquee in front of Buxton’s Octagon Hall throughout its closure have been approved.

High Peak Borough Council’s planning committee today (Monday) voted in favour of installing the temporary structure, which would accommodate events while the hall is closed

Concerns were raised that the marquee could potentially make it harder for wheelchair access, as well as access for emergency vehicles.

But the meeting was told that Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue had been consulted and did not have any concerns.

The hall closed its doors on October 12, so significant repairs can be made to the roof of the dome.

It is expected the hall will remain closed for around 15 months.

The council confirmed the budget for the repair work is £919,000.
