Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Director of Planning and Development Services Dave Brooks has retired after 37 years’ service.
Dave joined Matlock Urban District Council in 1973 as an Engineering Assistant, transferring to the then West Derbyshire District Council in April 1974. He became a Chief Officer in 1985, having qualified as a Chartered Civil Engineer.
Dave has been responsible for many large projects from inception to completion during his time with the District Council, including ‘The Bakewell Project’, Bakewell Pool, Ashbourne and Wirksworth Leisure Centres, ‘The Matlock Parks Project’, ‘IMPRESS’ (Crown Square, Matlock) and latterly Arc Leisure Matlock.
“I have enjoyed my 37 years at Derbyshire Dales immensely,” said Dave. “Every project has presented its own unique challenges, but together with colleagues and members, I believe we have managed to make a difference. Of that I am very proud and thankful to Derbyshire Dales District Council.”
Paying tribute to Dave Brooks, Chief Executive David Wheatcroft said: “I have worked with Dave throughout his career in local government and his skills will be sorely missed.
“He has led many of the District Council’s biggest projects in recent years, culminating with the development of the hugely impressive Arc Leisure Matlock, which he drove forward in typical determined style to ensure we opened on schedule.
“We wish Dave well in all his new projects. The great thing for him in the significant legacy he leaves behind is that every time he chooses to visit the Derbyshire Dales he will pass a landmark in whose development he played a major part.”
