Man accused of stabbing police officer in Buxton is remanded in custody

A man has appeared in court charged with the stabbing of a police officer in Buxton.

The alleged incident happened in the Market Place at 6.15pm on Saturday.

Lee Willan, 32, of Woodlands Close, Tintwistle, was arrested in Buxton that evening.

On Sunday night, he was charged with Section 18 wounding with intent, assaulting a constable and possession of a knife in a public place.

He appeared at Chesterfield magistrates’ court on Monday.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Derby Crown Court on Friday, September 25.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “The officer who was injured suffered a minor wound to his arm.

“He was treated at hospital but not detained.”
