Lorry driver fighting for life following crash

A 59-year-old lorry driver has been left fighting for life following a crash this morning.

Icy conditions have been blamed for the accident on the A623 at Stoney Middleton.

The white Iveco HGV left the road and ended up in a river banking at about 8.28am.

Fire crews from Bradwell and Hathersage cut free the driver who was taken to Northern General Hospital in Sheffield by air ambulance.

A police spokeswoman said his condition was life threatening.
