The harness racing pulled in a bumper crowd to Longnor Races this year.

The traditional and unique races saw almost 2,000 people watch the gymkahna, fell run, motorbike racing and of course the much-loved harness racing which had to be cancelled last year due to bad weather.

Heidi Bradbury, secretary for Longnor Sports said: “We have had another truly great year and that’s thanks to the support from the community once again. Longnor Races is something people always look forward too.

“It’s great to have one last get together to say goodbye to the summer before the dark and dismal winter arrives.”
Longnor Races has been going for 114 years and originally started when two milk floats raced through the village, now more than a century on it has grown into a true social event and thousands descended on Waterhouse Farm for the fun yesterday, Thursday, September 6.

Hiedi said: “We had a really good crowd, I think there was a lot more people were here because the harness racing was back.

“Longnor Races isn’t like other village events it brings something different and unique and I think the fact it has stood the test of time over the years shows just how much it is really loved by the whole community.”
