A Whaley Bridge woman is tackling her first marathon in London this year in memory of her late sister.

Helen Gilbert, 47, pictured with running buddy Alex Noden, is raising money for disability charity Leonard Cheshire.

Her sister, Lisa, was born with a genetic disorder which resulted in a number of impairments. As her condition worsened, Lisa was cared for at Leonard Cheshire’s Honresfeld residential care home, before she passed away in 2012 at the age of 40.

Helen said: “I am determined to get round and have been training hard so that I can be as confident and comfortable as possible. I’m excited and apprehensive in equal measure.”
