A planning application has been submitted for the re-development of the former Dorma factory site in Chinley.

The regeneration proposal by Copperleaf Group Ltd for the 28 acre site includes up to 182 homes, 25,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace, a children’s nursery and areas of public open space in a scheme valued at £40m.

The masterplan was amended following two well attended consultation events in Chinley and Chapel-en-le-Frith which enabled local people to have an input into the proposals.

Mark Whylie, Managing Director of Copperleaf Group Ltd, said: “It is our intention that this site will be regenerated and developed to deliver homes, employment opportunities and community facilities for the benefit of the community.”

“We have undertaken extensive consultation work over the past year which has shaped the proposals and we look forward to continuing to work with the community in bringing forward a deliverable and practical scheme which will make great use of this otherwise redundant land.”

Marc Hourigan of planning consultancy Hourigan Connolly who lodged the application on behalf of Innovation Forge, a subsidiary of Copperleaf said: “There is a significant shortage of housing in the High Peak and this proposal will make a substantial contribution towards addressing both need and demand.

“This scheme aims to deliver precisely the sort of sustainably located mixed-use development that the government’s Planning for Growth agenda envisages, making an important contribution to regeneration, housing, economic and community priorities.”

Once validated the plans will be on the borough council website at

The plans will probably go before the HPBC Development Control Committee in early spring.
