Hip hop superstar to headline Peak festival

A usually sleepy Peak District village will be rocked to the core when a hip hop superstar takes to the stage at the county’s premier music event.

Rap artist Snoop Dogg is headlining this year’s Y Not Festival, which will be held in Pikehall between July 31 and August 2.

Fellow headliners Primal Scream, Basement Jaxx, Saint Raymond, Nick Mulvey and Rae Morris will also be performing.

Y Not organiser Simon Mawbey said: “We are incredibly excited to present the first wave of acts for Y Not’s 10th birthday spectacular.

“We still can’t quite believe ourselves that the global icon Snoop Dogg will be making his way to rural Derbyshire.

“When you consider that alongside Basement Jaxx and the mix of amazing up and coming talent like Slaves and Saint Raymond, it’s shaping up to be something very special.

“There will be some surprises on site that we can’t reveal just yet and for the returning faithful rest assured TONY will take pride of place.”

The festival came from humble beginnings, with local lad Ralph Broadbent deciding to hold a party in a quarry in 2006. The following year it moved to its current Pikehall site and was attended by 1,000 people. Over the years, the musical event has grown in size, picking up a range of accolades along the way including the Best Small Festival title in the 2012 UK Festival Awards. This year around 15,000 people are expected to attend.

Tickets for the summer festival are currently on sale for £89.50 on the Y Not website, www.ynotfestivals.co.uk.
