Record-breaking crowds flocked to the opening day of this year’s Hillhead exhibition yesterday.
Organisers reported a six per cent rise in visitor numbers for a first day – as the sun blazed down on the quarry in Harpur Hill.
Hillhead is the biggest show of its kind in the world and showcases the latest products, services and equipment for the quarrying, construction and recycling industries.
More than 500 UK and overseas suppliers – including Bell Equipment, Hyundai and Hitachi – have been welcomed to the event, many of them using it as a platform for the launch of their latest products.
Hillhead also provides a unique opportunity to see the equipment in action across four live demonstration areas.
JCB aims to provide the X factor at this year’s exhibition with its brand new 20-tonne 220X tracked excavator.
In addition, the Volvo-powered Man Engine – a giant mechanical puppet – will make a special guest appearance.
The three-day show – which provides a welcome boost to the local economy as businesses cater for visitors – continues today and ends tomorrow.
