High Peak students learn about the importance of water

The international day, which was held on Tuesday, March 22, is an annual event that sees children across the world taking part in educational activities to highlight the importance of water.

Pupils from Harpur Hill, Burbage, Peak Dale and Fairfield Juniors all took part in the project designed by Nestlé Waters in partnership with Project WET designed to teach the importance of drinking enough water and help children identify the effects of dehydration.

Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Stewart Young, said: “It has been brilliant to attend the events going on in Buxton for World Water Day.

“Our community has such a strong link to water and it is fantastic to see our next generation being taught the importance of water to our health and local environment.”

The activities also taught the importance of water conservation, and came as Nestlé Waters released new poll results showing that young people are half as likely as their elders to take steps to conserve water.
