The Edale and Buxton mountain rescue teams were called out to rescue one of their own on Tuesday afternoon.
They received reports that a man had injured his knee while descending into Edale.
However, on arrival at the scene, the casualty turned out to be a long standing member of Buxton team who had slipped on the sodden grass while descending a slope.
A spokesperson said the man’s team mates were ‘hugely sympathetic’.
The man was carried back to the road and handed over to an ambulance crew to be taken to hospital for further treatment.
