HEROISM ON THE FOOTPLATE: Chapel-en-le-Frith rail disaster remembered 60 years on
The disastrous events of a freezing cold winter morning in 1957 would go down in High Peak history as its most tragic railway accident.
Next week marks 60 years since a freight train and a goods train collided at Chapel-en-le-Frith station. The accident is remembered for the heroism of three men who attempted to avert disaster, ultimately costing two of them their lives.
