A local charity is urging people to volunteer to help High Peak families struggling to cope with a variety of everyday parenting issues.
Home-Start High Peak is aiming to recruit new volunteers to keep pace with High Peak’s demands for support, with funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
Interested individuals who are able to offer an extra pair of hands and a listening ear, for a couple of hours a week – supporting families coping with situations as diverse as social isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness or disability – are invited to register for the next course for new volunteers. The course starts September 2015 and will take place in Buxton.
Would-be volunteers would need to dedicate 40 hours for training, and will learn how to deal with different scenarios, and build awareness, attitudes, skills and knowledge to help families in need.
Anthea Murfin, senior co-ordinator for the scheme, added: “There’s no shortage of demand for the kind of help we offer, and in the current climate, giving children the best possible start in life is more important than ever.”
A recipient of the support said: “Life has changed and it’s been for the better. Couldn’t recommend Home-Start more, just couldn’t.”
