The daring team of Francis Davies, Helen Butters, Janette Benaddi and Niki Doeg, known as the Yorkshire Rows, also hold the Guinness World Record for rowing 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean during the world’s toughest rowing race – the Atlantic Challenge.

They received the accolade after becoming the oldest all-female crew to complete the challenge, taking 67 days, five hours and two minutes to reach Antigua after setting off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands.

At the Pavilion Arts Centre on Tuesday October 9, at 7.30pm, members of the team will talk about their motivations, the challenges overcome, and lessons learned from almost ten weeks at sea.

Adventure festival director Matt Heason said: “We have had a lot of amazing adventurers at the Buxton Adventure Festival who have completed some incredible challenges and the Yorkshire Rows are right up there with the best.

“The four mums, who have eight children between them, became friends after taking up rowing at a club in York. To then complete the world’s toughest rowing race is an incredible accomplishment but to set a new world record while doing so really sets the Yorkshire Rows apart.”

Tickets for the event, priced £17.50, are available from the box office on 01298 72190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
