HIGH PEAK children needing specialist orthodontic care will once again be able to get treatment in Buxton from April 1.
Specialist orthodontist Claire Williams has been awarded the contract by NHS Derbyshire County following the retirement of the previous contract holder last year.
The specialist referral service – which will be able to treat up to 45 patients a year – is to run from the Buxton Dental Practice, on Belmont Terrace, and will be known as Buxton Orthodontics.
Keith Mann, head of primary care contracts for NHS Derbyshire County, said: “We are delighted to be announcing the opening of this new specialist referral service in Buxton, and are especially pleased to be able to offer this contract to Claire who is a local and whose enthusiasm for working with the people of Buxton is very evident.
“The new service offers the perfect solution for patients in the area and will be led by a highly skilled professional from a Buxton base who will be starting almost immediately.”
NHS Derbyshire County recently ran a formal competitive tendering process, where interested parties were invited to bid for the orthodontic contract.
Orthodontist Claire Williams was selected on the basis of the quality of the service to be provided, location, and ability to begin working for the people of Buxton within a month.
Claire, who currently works at practices in Chesterfield and Sheffield, said she was looking forward to setting up the service in Buxton.
“An attractive smile is vital for the self-confidence of many people, so I’m absolutely delighted to be offering this new service to the people of Buxton and surrounding areas.
“I look forward to welcoming new patients in April,” she added.
Patients in the area referred for orthodontic treatment will soon be directed to the Buxton practice.
