Public meeting on maternity services taking place in Buxton tonight

A PUBLIC meeting setting out how maternity services will be provided in the High Peak once Corbar Birth Centre closes is taking place tonight.

The meeting is being held at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton from 7pm to 9pm when health bosses will share their plans for how women will receive support and care during and after pregnancy once Corbar closes on July 1.

Local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), who are set to take control of local NHS budgets from April 2013, have been working with service providers and service users to ensure they take into consideration the views that the public expressed during the birth centre engagement process.

A project group was set up including clinicians, the CCG, midwives and service users.

Dr Ben Milton, chair of North Derbyshire CCG, said: “This meeting will be a chance for people to find out about the range of maternity services that will be in place once the birth centres close, including locally based breastfeeding support services, baby clinics, antenatal and postnatal care.”
