Bringing home cancer message

Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mobile Information Service has included Buxton in its new tour for 2012.

The mobile team of cancer specialists will be visiting Buxton on Wednesday, February 29, parking adjacent to the Spring Gardens Shopping Centre Entrance near Burton’s from 1pm to 4pm.

The team’s visit also coincides with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in March. The mobile centre has clear information on both cancers, which are among the most common in the UK.

The team, on board a bright green bus, welcome anyone with a question or concern about cancer, no matter how small, to step on board for a confidential chat, or just to pick up some information leaflets. No appointment is necessary and the service is completely free of charge.

Helen Tuvey, Macmillan Lead Information Support Specialist, said: “Our Macmillan information team can answer any concern about cancer, including information about treatments, side effects, benefits advice and what support is available locally. We’re here for anyone affected by cancer – those with a cancer diagnosis, friends, relatives and carers.” Visit or call the Macmillan Support Line free on 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday, 9am – 8pm).
