A cat who escaped from a Buxton vets last week, walked for more than four miles across open countryside to his home in Brandside, to the amazement of his owners.
Harry, 8, a ginger domestic cat, was due to attend a routine appointment for his diabetes at Overdale Vets last Tuesday, on New Market Street, with his owners Simon and Wendy Jackson, when his basket broke, causing him to scarper.
But six days later, on Monday evening, Harry returned home to Barnhouse Farm, on Dalehead Lane, having navigated the 4.1 miles by himself.
Veterinary nurse Sue Cox said: “I’ve never heard of anything like it. He had no way of knowing the way. He’s only ever left their farm by car. It’s not often you hear of cats being reunited with their owners; they’re over the moon.”
Mrs Jackson said: “We’re no idea how he did it. Everybody had been searching for him. We hoped he wasn’t suffering and that someone had taken him in. Then he turned up miaowing his head off.”
