Buxton’s Hadfield brothers finished their season on a high at Donington in the final round of the Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge at Donington Park.

In qualifying Ryan and Jonathan were fresh from the previous round at Spa and both brothers were eager to make sure they put themselves in good stead for the deciding weekend.

Saturday afternoon saw the first race of the weekend take place at Donington Park Circuit. Ryan was sat secnd on the grid with his sibling and championship rival Jonathan, just behind in third.

Both brothers had strong starts, with Ryan remaining in second place, right on the back of the leader, and Jonathan settling into third.

As the race progressed Ryan was fighting hard to try and gain the lead and Jonathan was also fighting to keep their main championship rival behind the both of them.

After a strong battle the chequered flag saw Ryan settle with second place, with his younger brother Jonathan just behind in third, and vitally keeping their championship rival behind him.

Race two took place on Sunday morning and saw the two Hadfield brother sit just behind each other on the grid, in second and third position.

The pair got off to strong starts, with Ryan taking the lead off the line, however after a robust move coming into Redgate, Ryan was pushed way out wide onto the grass allowing Jonathan and Chapman to get past him.

However a determined Ryan quickly got onto the back of the leading two drivers and was challenging for the lead once again.

As the race progressed, Ryan managed to use his driving talent to gain his lead again and Jonathan also managed to make his way up into second position.

On the last lap of the race, disaster struck for Jonathan when contact was made with a backmarker, resulting in him not being able to make it to the end of the race.

As the chequered flag was waved Ryan took his second win of the year, claiming vital championship points and Jonathan ended up with a DNF.

After the race, both Ryan and Jonathan were penalised due to racing incidents, resulting in them both having a grid penalty for the final race of the season and a huge 15 championship point drop.

Race 3 was late on Sunday afternoon and it was the reverse grid race of the weekend, which was sure to make things interesting after Ryan and Jonathan’s grid and championship point deductions.

The reverse grid meant that the top nine cars were reversed, leaving Ryan in 14th and Jonathan in 40th place after their grid penalty. As the chequered flag was waved for the final time this season,

Ryan came over the line in second place from 14th, taking his third podium of the weekend, and Jonathan finished 10th after taking over an astonishing 30 cars.

After a hard fought season Ryan has finished the Ginetta GT5 Challenge in third place in the drivers standing and Jonathan not far behind in fourth.
