High Peak Borough Council has given the green light for a change of use of a ground floor retail unit on Bridge Street to a Thai food takeaway.

The premises is currently occupied by the Spabox salon.

Council case officer Chris Johnston, in his judgement, said: “I consider the site to be a suitable location for a hot food takeaway as it is on the edge of the town centre where such uses are encouraged to be located and which do not undermine the main primary retail function of the town centre.

“The Environmental Health Officer considers there is potentially a high risk of food smells/odour and recommended a better design of extraction system to prevent the occupants of upper floor flats being affected by this.

“A redesigned system together with additional specifications was submitted and has met with the approval of the Environmental Health Officer subject to conditions.”

He added: “Overall, the proposal would not have a significant impact on the vitality of the town centre, would not significantly harm the character and appearance of the Conservation Area, would not lead to any highways problems and would not harm
the residential amenities of the occupants of the upper floor flats.”
