Good sports on show as Dales car rally is a Triumph

Ashford-in-the-Water hosted a rally to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Derbyshire Dales Section of the TR Register.

Over 35 vehicles, mostly Triumph TRs but also including two MGs, a Citroen and an Austin Healey, assembled at The Bulls Head from noon.

Among them was the star attraction, a 1953 TS2, the oldest TR in the country and the second TR sports car ever built.

Section spokesman Maurice Davey said enthusiasts travelled the length and breadth of the country to gather at the location of the Dales section’s inaugural meeting 25 years ago.

“We all had a great day and the weather was perfect,” he continued. “The total number of people attending was around 50 with those in cars and others coming to view.

“There was a concourse competition which was won by one of our members, Steve Buxton, with his TR 250.”

Many vehicles embarked on a journey from Crich Stand to Ashford prior to the social gathering.

The TR Register is one of the most successful one-make car clubs in the world, covering the entire range of Triumph TR sports cars.
