Despite a disappointing turnout at Glossop’s first soap box derby, organisers said there would be a repeat event next year.
The downhill race, featuring homemade carts, took place at Bankswood Park, Hadfield, on Saturday ahead of the annual Bankswood Music Festival.
The derby, which kicked off at 10am, involved drivers freewheeling down a toboggan-style course from the top of the grassy knoll.
Matt Done, of Glossop Round Table who organised the event, said there were supposed to be around 12 competitors participating in teams, but unfortunately many cancelled on the day.
He said: “It was very funny. We had three or four enter and they loved it. They thought it was great. We’re hoping to do the same again next year. Hopefully, more people will take part.”
Matt added there were some “super-duper” carts and the only hitch was some racers didn’t know how to stop, with one shooting through a group of Scouts pitching a tent.
“Mellow Yellow” won the inaugural trophy with a time of 15.41 seconds,“Never Bin Beaten” finished second in 21.63 seconds and “Dark Descender” took third place in 22.25 seconds.
