Residents living in Glossop and surrounding areas are being encouraged to step up their security following a number of attempted burglaries in the area.

Over the past week police have received reports of offenders attempting to gain entry to properties in the town, with incidents taking place along Chunal Lane, Simmondley New Road, and Castleton Green in Glossop.

Following the incidents, officers from the Glossop Safer Neighbourhood Team have been carrying out increased, high-visibility patrols in the town and have also been visiting residents to offer crime prevention and security advice.

The team are encouraging Glossop residents to take steps to boost their security to further protect their property from being targeted by thieves.

This includes making sure that all windows and doors are properly locked before leaving your home unattended, and ensuring that any valuables, personal documents and car keys are left out of view from passers-by.

Homeowners are also being advised to consider using timer switches or leaving a light on when not at home, and to also draw their curtains to prevent the prying eye of a thief.

Residents are being urged to report any suspicious vehicles or activity to police on 101 or 999 in an emergency to help to stop a crime from happening.
