The organisers of Gilbert and Sullivan Festival have announced after 20 years they will no longer be holding the event in Buxton.
Festival chairman Ian Smith said this will be the final year the festival takes place in Buxton.
He said: “I can assure you that we have enjoyed almost every minute of the 20 years that we have been in Buxton.”
Ian put the decision down to financial pressure due to a loss of funding from High Peak Borough Council and an increase in costs from Buxton Opera House.
Leader of the council, Councillor Caitlin Bisknell, said: “We have had to make some difficult decisions and the financial pressures we face mean we can no longer justify supporting the Festival to the same level as previous years. We have to balance our priorities and providing services to our residents has to take precedence over everything else.”
