Getting muddy to boost funds for a disabled little Lola from Buxton

On Saturday 13 people will be heading to Chester for Tough Mudder, a five mile obstacle course which will see parents of Lola’s brother Jude take on 14 challenges made more difficult by the mud.

Lola, nine, was born with the tip of her ninth chromosome missing which has led to medical complications all her life including heart surgery at five-months-old, epilepsy and severe bowel problems. She is both physically and mentally disabled.

Dad, Hugh, of Macclesfield Road, Buxton, said: “We have been training hard for so many months now we are ready to try and raise as much money as we can.”
The money raised will be going towards a £10,000 intensive dolphin rehabilitation therapy session for Lola to improve everything from her muscle strength to her eye contact.

Hugh said: “With money raised both online and offline we are nearly at the half way mark which is something we thought would be months and months away and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”

The idea for Tough Mudder came about at the start of the year when parents at Burbage School - where Jude goes - wanted to do something to help Lola.

Hugh said: “We have been running, cycling, playing badminton just to get fit for the challenge. The Leawood Hotel owners also have children at Burbage so we have been training in the gym there.

“It will be tough but that’s the point and knowing we are doing it to help Lola’s quality of life will push me on.”
