Final preparations are being made for this year’s Longnor Races, which takes place next week.
The popular harness racing event, which has been a staple of the High Peak sporting calendar for over 100 years, is being held on Thursday September 11, with a variety of events to keep the whole family entertained.
The first event of the day is the pony gymkhana with a best turned out competition and pony races. The harness racing starts at 2pm with around five races and then the final.
Just before the final, spectators can take part in the dream mile, one lap of the track, before attention turns to the motorbike races once the harness racing is finished.
The day draws to a close with the cross country race which is approximately four miles for adults and two miles for juniors.
There will be a licensed bar and refreshments will also be available throughout the day.
Hollinsclough Silver Band will be providing musical entertainment at various intervals and licensed bookies will be present on the day for the harness racing only.
Longnor Sports Committee secretary Heidi Bradbury said: “We look forward to another fantastic day of racing and a great day out for all the family.”
