Gary Bramwell will take part in the 26-mile race on Sunday, April 24, to raise money for Myeloma UK.

He will be running in memory of former Branksome Care Manager Ian Magno, who sadly died of the illness last year.

Gary said: “I have met Ian’s family since he’s died and they are amazing and a credit to Ian.

“Ian wanted to do a sponsored walk in London when he was better and raise money so this is for him and for his family and friends who miss him and to keep his memory going.”

Last month, the grandfather of Gary’s wife Vicky also sadly died of myeloma.

Gary added: “Up until a year ago I’d never heard of myeloma and didn’t know what it was so I am trying to raise as much money and awareness as I can.”

Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a cancer arising from plasma cells.

Unlike many cancers, myeloma does not exist as a lump or tumour.

It can affect multiple places in the body where bone marrow is normally active in an adult.

Gary has been training hard for the marathon and recently took part in the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

As the Buxton Advertiser went to press, he had almost reached his £400 target – but more donations are welcome.
