High Peak-based Edwina, who was a late entrant into the jungle, said she hopes her jungle exploits have put Derbyshire on the map.

The 68-year-old, who was South Derbyshire MP between 1983 and 1997, made it into the show’s semi-finals before being eliminated by the public on December 6.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, Edwina said the challenge was easier than she thought.

She added: “It was a very enjoyable experience and they were a terrific bunch of people.

“I’ve long learned in Derbyshire to just wait and let things come to you. I had conversations with a four foot iguana, several snakes and loads of lizards.

“The right man definitely won, Jake has just started out while Foggy has had an extremely successful career. He is a very nice, gentle man and very honest.

“It was Derbyshire true grit that kept me going, I’ve spent the best part of two decades here and we say it like it is. I’m very proud of the county.”

During her time in the jungle, outspoken Edwina, who lives in Whaley Bridge, hit the national headlines after she came to blows with fellow campmate Kendra Wilkinson.

The pair had got into a heated dispute after Edwina told Kendra she didn’t agree with her philosophy that you should ‘never live your life for somebody else’.

“No Derbyshire person worth their salt would put up with Kendra, she was soft and shallow.

“I got a tirade of abuse as a result but I’m used to that, like I said to her, she can’t dominate me.” she added.

The former MP also said that she enjoyed the male company in the jungle.

She said: “Looking at a few honed male bodies was just lovely.”
