As part of the commemorations to mark the First World War, Buxton firemen joined together to mark the sounding of the 30,000th Last Post under the Menin Gate, in Ypres, Belgium.
The Last Post, reminiscent of the bugle that sounded at the end of each day to announce to allied troops that they could rest, is sounded daily under the gate by the local fire brigade in Ypres. Today it serves to remember those who sacrificed their lives in the First World War.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service marked the occasion at 7pm on July 9, at Fire Stations across the county, including at Buxton Fire Station.
Ex-Serviceman and Station Manager for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Gary Platts said: “The last post is an ode to an ode and acknowledges the sacrifice made by all.”
