A community-led committee has taken over the running of the fair from Buxton Town Team, and new chairman Jane Fletcher is excited about what the event has in store.

She said: “I think it is brilliant that the community has pulled together and worked to keep the spring fair going.

“Every year it has been a wonderful event for the town, attracting thousands of people and creating an atmosphere to rival carnival day, and this year’s fair will be no different.”

From 10am on May 7 there will be stalls, rides, games and entertainment spread throughout the town, stretching from the Market Place in Higher Buxton down to Spring Gardens and the Pavilion Gardens.

Jane said: “It really is an inclusive day. Everyone is welcome and there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

There will be three performance areas in the town - on the Market Place, near Argos and outside the Old Hall Hotel - where live music and dance will take place.

Returning once again to wow the crowds will be firm favourites The Billerettes, Chapel Morris Men and the Powderkeg Morris dancers.

There will also be donkey rides on the Slopes for the little ones to enjoy, as well as food stalls selling tasty treats from around the world.

The spring fair is seen as a chance to promote all that is good in the town, and there will be stalls from charities as well as local business.

“It’s about giving people the foot up they might need,” said Jane. “There is a new business which has opened on the Market Place and they have taken a stall to let more people know about their new venture.

“All the businesses have been amazing and really given their support to the spring fair once again, which is even more fantastic as we came so close to losing something which unites the town and is a really lovely day out.”
