Three events to raise awareness of the eye disease glaucoma are taking place in Buxton in the coming weeks.

Derbyshire Community Health Services is working with the International Glaucoma Association to promote eye health in the local community and help combat glaucoma, a leading cause of preventable blindness, in the run up to National Glaucoma Awareness Week (June 9-15).

On May 31, David Harris, a co-ordinator of the association, and Buxton-based glaucoma nurse Norma Ayres will be offering advice and information at a stand in The Springs shopping centre.

A glaucoma support information meeting is being held on June 6 at Buxton Methodist Church from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, including a talk by consultant ophthalmologist Conrad Yuen, and there will also be information on the Sight Support Derbyshire stand at the Rotary Fair in the Octagon, Pavilion Gardens, on June 7, from 10am to 4pm.
