Resurfacing of council car parks across High Peak starts in Buxton

Resurfacing works have started on off-street car parks in Buxton this week, as part of an improvement programme worth over half a million pounds.

The work commenced on Monday, September 7, with the resurfacing of the Market Place Town Hall car park and then the South Street car park on Tuesday, September 8.

In each case, the car parks had to be closed to enable the work to be carried out, and It is expected that the work will take two days to complete with the facilities re-opening after.

The rest of the Market Place car park, Sainsbury’s is due to start on Thursday, September 10.

High Peak Borough Council has said that it will be investing almost £556,000 in the improvement programme which includes resurfacing and line painting.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, deputy leader and executive councillor for regeneration, tourism and leisure, said: “As part of our commitment to our borough’s high streets, we’re investing in works to improve our off-street parking facilities in towns and villages across the High Peak – with these being just the first batch.

“Obviously, resurfacing work of this nature will cause some short-term disruption which we have tried to keep to a minimum.

“I would just ask that shoppers, businesses and visitors please bear with us whilst we carry out these necessary upgrades and thank people in advance for their patience.”

The other car parks to benefit in this first phase include, The Slopes in Buxton where work is scheduled to take place between October 5 and 12, Edale car park from October 5 to 14, and Thornbrook Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith on October 6.

A further eight car parks at locations in Glossop, Hadfield, New Mills and Whaley Bridge are also due to be resurfaced once this first phase of the programme is complete.

Notice signs will be posted at the car parks seven days prior to work starting on site and updates will be posted on the council’s Twitter and Facebook accounts to notify people of any changes to the programme.
