Elliot has a mountain to climb for charity

While many people will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a romantic meal, Whaley Bridge’s Elliot Simmonds has somewhat more adventurous plans.

The 23-year-old is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the children’s cancer charity CLIC-Sargent.

Elliot, who works for DJS Research, is undertaking the challenge in memory of his auntie Deborah, who died of breast cancer in her 40s, and for two work colleagues, who both have a young child who has survived cancer.

The six-day climb begins on Sunday, with Elliot part of a group of 12 people plus guides, including Lucy and Kate Flory, sisters of his best friend.

He said: “I have had about £500 of marvellous donations from DJS, the Goyt Inn, my local, and from Whaley Bridge Cricket Club. I coach the junior team there and play in the second team.”

He is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity and can be sponsored via email at esimmonds@djsresearch.
