Eight-year-old airlifted to hospital

An eight-year old boy was airlifted to hospital after falling from a tree in Castleton on Saturday.

The boy suffered an injury to the chest in the fall, landing on a branch after falling from the tree. He had been carried to a nearby youth hostel and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) landed in a field adjacent to the hostel at 12.25pm.

The youngster was given pain relief and immobilised but because of poor weather conditions, the crew were unable to fly him to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, and instead took him to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
