Thousands of Derbyshire parents have secured a place at their first choice primary school for their children in September 2016.
Derbyshire County Council will contact 11,434 parents today (April 18) making offers of reception and junior school places - with almost 93 per cent being offered their first choice school.
And a total of 97.9 per cent will be offered a place at one of the schools in their preference list.
Of those who applied by the deadline, 97.4 per cent will be offered a place at their first preference junior school and 98.7 per cent will be offered a place at one of their preferred schools.
Councillor Caitlin Bisknell, deputy cabinet member for children’s services, said: “It’s great news that once again the vast majority of parents have got their first choice of school for their child.
“Our staff have worked hard to process thousands of applications and I’d like to thank parents for completing their applications online and making our job easier.
“Parents and children have waited patiently for this news, we know what an important day it is for them.”
The council is reminding parents that there is no automatic right to a place at a particular school.
The small number of parents who have not been allocated their first choice have the right to appeal to an independent panel. The closing date for appeals is 17 May.
Parents who applied online or through Call Derbyshire will get an email about their child’s place after 9.30am on 18 April, if they provided an email address. Or they can log on to derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions to view their allocation.
The council will write by second class post to those parents who didn’t provide an email address or who sent in a paper application.
Anyone who has not yet applied for a place at infant, junior or primary school for their child should use the late application procedure at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions which is available until 31 August, Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190 or ring the school admissions and transport team on 01629 537479 for a paper form.
