Buxton Community School took the Opera House stage by storm as students showcased their performing talents during their annual dance show.

Over 100 teenagers danced the night away at the historic Water Street theatre last Thursday, in front of a packed audience of friends and family.

The students have been practising for months and they all performed exceptionally well. They were a credit to the school and to their friends and family members in the audience.

Dare, Dream, Dance showcased a variety of choreographed dance performances featuring an eclectic mix of styles, from street and contemporary to jazz and break dance.

The College Road secondary school has held the annual showcase for the past nine years, and last week’s was the sixth to be hosted by the Opera House.

Dance teacher Zoe Hanson recalls: “We originally started off with about 50 people watching in our school hall; last week we had about 500 watching us on the Opera House stage. It has just grown and grown.

“The students have been practising for months and they all performed exceptionally well. They were a credit to the school and to their friends and family members in the audience.”

Among the performances was a Frozen-themed musical number which was performed “fantastically well” by Year 13 pupils in what was their final dance show before leaving school later this year.
