Year 9 Cup Final: Glossopdale 2, Buxton Community School 4
BUXTON Community School has made history by becoming the first team to win the Year 9 cup for a third time.
Away to Glossopdale in the final on May 4, a dominant Buxton side made the perfect start with a goal after only 21 seconds. From the kick-off, neat passing between Stone and Halsey gave the latter the opportunity to open the scoring.
A second goal arrived after eight minutes, Halsey again finishing a smart passing move involving Prince, Hockenhull and Callum Ward. Straight from the kick-off, Bacon in the Buxton goal had to be alert to keep out a rare Glossop attack.
Buxton centre-backs Matt Ward and Chris Martin kept the skilful Glossop attackers at bay, before further pressure from Buxton saw Halsey net his hat-trick with a lovely chipped cross from Betts who was dominating the midfield.
Bacon again saved well, but Glossop had the final say following a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-1 at half-time.
Buxton kept up the pressure in the second half, showing high fitness and skill levels, and a deserved fourth goal arrived when neat play between Martin and Stone saw Halsey beat the offside trap and coolly lob the keeper from outside the area.
Chadwick entered the game and exploited the spaces that a tired Glossop team left. The last kick of the game saw Glossop score another goal.
While Halsey scored all four goals, his strike partner Stone never stopped running, played unselfishly and deserved a goal.
The midfield of Will Martin, Hockenhull, Betts, Prince and Chadwick dominated the opposition with their neat passing and skill. The defence of Chris Martin, George Whelan, Callum Ward and captain Matt Ward made endless tackles, and Bacon in goal made several fantastic saves.
