Buxton’s St Thomas More Catholic School had a magical day of tricks and treats when it staged a Harry Potter-themed day of events.
The day was organised to promote literacy and ‘love of reading’ with cross-curricular links to the theme of the novels.
A number of activities were laid on by the staff for pupils to enjoy.
A spokesperson from the secondary school, located off Palace Road, said: “Various quizzes and competitions were eagerly completed by all year groups.
“Pupils were out of uniform but along with our staff, they were encouraged to dress as characters from Harry Potter.
“This resulted in a marvellous mix of costumes across the whole school.
“To continue the theme, we were treated to a visit by a local falconer who brought four of his owls.
“These beautiful creatures flew around our hall and landed at will on volunteer pupils as well as some unsuspecting staff members.
“It created much hilarity and a little trepidation.”
The evening concluded with the school hall being converted into “Hogwarts school” - made famous by the books and films, and was complete with floating candles, for a showing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
