Star students at St Thomas More Catholic School have been honoured for their achievements during their annual Key Stage 4 Awards Evening.
Many of last year’s leavers returned to collect their GCSE certificates in what was a record-equalling year for the Palace Fields school, with 75 per cent of the students achieving at least five GCSE passes at grades A*-C including English and Maths.
Helen Thornhill won the awards for best performance at GCSE, art and attendance. Other winners included Hannah Jones, Will Cruddace, Gina Gill, Niamh MacNamara, Maria Ferreira, Lucy Boardman, Ewan Kilpatrick and Benedict Dinardo.
A school spokesperson said the event was a “very well-attended and enjoyable occasion”.
Students in the current Year 11 also received certificates and awards at the event, which was sponsored by Vision for Education, Morrisons and Green Pavilion Florists.
The school offered special thanks to Emma Oakes, from Buxton Opera House, who was guest speaker for the evening, and also to Charles Kitchen, President of Buxton and District Lions.
