A Whaley Bridge teenager has her sights set firmly on Oxford after toasting A-level success.

Amy Whittaker, a student at Aquinas College in Stockport, secured A* grades in chemistry, biology and maths, along with an A in further maths.

The 18-year-old, of Old Road, who has ambitions of a career in drug development and research, intends to continue her studies after being accepted into Oxford to study chemistry.

“I’m over the moon. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get this morning,” said the former Chapel-en-le-Frith High School pupil.

“I love chemistry and Oxford is such a lovely place, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mum Wendy added: “We are all extremely proud of Amy. She has worked extremely hard and the results are exactly what she hoped for.

“Both Chapel High School and Aquinas have been magnificent.”
