The public is to decide if the Duke of York in Burbage should keep its name as the owners embark on a £190,000 renovation.
Owned by Punch Taverns, the pub, which closed down in March, is to undergo a major refurbishment in November.
The firms Partnership Development Manager, Matthew Dutton, said: “I’m open to suggestions from residents - whether they think the name should change, and if so, to what and why.”
Planned improvements include moving the bar and serving cask ales. The decor, furniture and fittings will be updated.
“I encourage people to draw on local history and local references of Buxton for inspiration. The opportunity to have this kind of impact on a pub is rare so I want to encourage residents to take advantage and have their say,” said Matthew.
The person who submits the winning name will officially open the new-look pub and win a meal for four. If there is a majority vote to keep the name the same, a winner will be drawn at random.
