Final preparations are being made for Dove Holes carnival and fete day, which takes place this weekend.

Saturday’s parade starts at 1pm from Dale Road and will be led by Dove Holes Brass Band. Carnival king Alex Tideswell will join fancy dress walkers, vehicles, bands, floats and visiting queens in the procession, which will finish at the community centre where the fete starts.

The main A6 running through Dove Holes will be closed at 1pm from the traffic lights near the Wheatsheaf to the cricket field for around 20 minutes.

The fete features a number of different attractions including an assault course, craft stalls and side shows. A scarecrow competition is being held with a World Cup theme, and a court of queens is also planned, dependent on the weather.

After the fete closes at 4.30pm, the entertainment continues at the Queens Hotel.

CEMEX are sponsoring the event this year and there will also be a dog show on Saturday at 3pm.

A pet blessing service will take place at St Paul’s Church on Sunday at 3pm and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team are holding an open day at their Dove Holes base to coincide with the carnival.
