Donation helps Peak pupils get more active

The Morrison’s Foundation donated £4,000 to the parent teacher association of Peak School, in Chinley, in order to help them buy specialist equipment.

The school caters for pupils aged two to 19 with a range of special needs.

The money will pay for a replacement rebound therapy trampoline and training for five additional rebound therapy practitioners.

Rebound therapy is a part of the school’s physical curriculum and is used to facilitate movement, promote balance, promote an increase or decrease in muscle tone, promote relaxation, promote sensory integration, improve fitness and exercise tolerance, and to improve communication skills.

The school’s business manager Amanda Lee said the donation was ‘fantastic’ for the school.

She said the therapy and equipment allows pupils to move safely in a way they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do due to mobility restrictions.

“It really helps with physical fitness and enjoyment for children who otherwise may be confined to wheelchairs,” she added.

“It helps their educational experience.”

A group from Peak School visited Morrison’s in Chapel to pick up the cheque and were greeted warmly by the staff there.
